The international museum of naive art Anatole Jakovsky is situated in a castle near the colline of Fabron. This castle has been built by Mr. Blanc the man who has founded and directed the casino of Monte - Carlo. Several owners have succeeded after Mr. Blanc including the famous parfumer François Coty. This man has given some orders for making mundifications to the original castle (one important balcony, planting many trees around the castle and also given the name of the castle).
In 1982 the collector Anatole Jakovsky donates six hundred paintings, sculptures and important documentaries about naive art to the city of Nice. With this donation the city of Nice has founded a museum inside the castle Sainte - Hélène. This collection (paintings, sculptures, documents) retraces the story of naive art between the 18th century until today.
The naive art is an art who doesn't belong to any art school. It seems to be difficult to organise an exposition about the Promenade des Anglais with paintings of naive art. The organizers have choosen two originals ideas for introducing the exposition : the Promenade as a place appropriated by the people and the promenade as a border between the land and the water.
The painters and the sculptors are firstly attracted by the objects rejected by the sea on the beach ("Promenade des pas perdus"). The artists recover the rejections (wood, metal, others materials) and use them for creating something they call "the state of breaking". The artists impose a choice, a new utility to the rejections of the sea.
The painters and the sculptors are also attracted by the dialog between the object and is becoming. In "Promenade comme un lieu de passage" et "Promenade par errance" they invitate the spectator to walk towards time and space. The walk is the way of leaving of the Promenade des Anglais. The Promenade becomes a place full of life who invitate to create a new connection with the nature.
