It's seems that there is no connection between sport (word from the english desport who means physicall exercices practising individually and collectivelly) and the fashion (the way of dressing in the respect of a certain society taste).
Firstly the sport was practised with ordinary clothes but at the end of the 19th century the fashion and the sport mixe together when the englishmen invent the modern sport. In 1880 the choice of a discipline (tennis, equitation, golf) and the refinement of the clothes become the sign of the belonging of the fashionable society. New lines of clothes appear.
The sport stays until 1919 a sophisticated spare - time. After the first world war the sport takes another meaning : the competition. The sportsmen try to realise performances and a new material like nylon is invented and sold by the industry for them.
During the sixties the american culture become to be imperative in the sport. The americanised sporting clothes touch all the backgrounds. New alternative sports like the surf and the skateboard become to be important. These alternative sports have their own lifestyle and their own fashion. These alternative sports give an inspiration to the creators. During the eighties the hip hop culture appears. This culture brings a new type of shoes : the basket.
Since ten years the sport and the luxury industry are very connected. The sportsman becomes the ambassador of a trade - mark. The creators inspire themselves by the sport values and try to make connections between the sport values and the values of the trade - mark they are working for. Now the sportsmen carry differents values between virility and cool attitude.
