Exhibition at the Archeological Museum of Nice Cimiez, 160 avenue des Arènes de Cimiez, 06000 Nice

 

The pieces of the exhibition "Dreams from Greece" come from the Campana marquis and also the Mayrargues family. During the 19th century Campana had bought some Greek pieces but he should to past with these pieces after a lawsuit with the catholic church. The french emperor Napoléon the third had bought them and showcased inside the Palace of Industry in 1864. The Mayrargues family has given by will their pieces to the city of Nice in 1969.

The Greek pieces are composed by some vases and usual objects made by craftsmen when the south of Italy are occupied by the Greeks. The amphoras can hold some wine and water. The wine can be consume with or without any water at the beginning or at the ending of the meal. The potters decorated the amphoras with simple or much more elaborated patterns.
