These five masterpieces have been restored during the closing of the Museum from September 2015 to January 2016. A specialized laboratory the CICRP has realized the restoration of the canvas. The Song of Songs is an ode to passionate love, to mystical love and also to cosmic love. It correspond to the three Chagall work themes : the blossoming of love, the solitude and the exile and the joy of the lovers reuniting. With the help of the science the CICRP has analyzed the pigments used by Chagall, the cracks of the canvas, the residues and the impact of the canvas backing for defining with precision the Chagall's technique. The deeply clean of the paintings help to reveal again their flaming colors. The framing plays also an important part in their enhancing. During the sixties André Malraux wanted to give a very solemn framing to the canvas but the Museum gives a sober framing that help to understand better the canvas.
