Between the city of Nice and the painter Henri Matisse it exists a special link. Matisse arrives for the first time in Nice in December 1917 and he is seduced by the light. Matisse live in the Hotel Beau Rivage inside a long short room with a banal set and a large window. This set inspires him the famous "Intérieurs niçois" who use the set, a model and the light effect. For painting the "Interieurs niçois" Matisse must create an environment who combine the forms and the lines. Matisse will develop his own technical in his street Felix studio (United states waterfront) and in the villa des Alliés among a peaceful and colored trees parc. During his first trip on the French Riviera he will go to Cagnes - sur -mer for meeting the painter Renoir.
Henri Matisse will stay more longer on the French Riviera when he buys an apartment in the old Regina Hotel. Matisse has been operated in 1941 and the doctors succeeded to save his life but he can't stay up anymore. The vast and aired apartment helps him for working more easily on the Rosaire chapel of the Vence city. Matisse uses some cutting falls for creating forms who makes think about a kaleidoscopic assembling. At the same time he draws also the wardrobes and the set for ballet "Strange farandole" (Monte Carlo) and will illustrate the "Jazz" serial with shiny and flashy colors like in his fawn period.
Henri Matisse stays definitively on the French riviera in 1948. Inside the old Regina Hotel apartment he realizes the holly wardrobes and the set of the chapel du Rosaire at the city of Vence. Matisse do his work by friendship for the former nurse Monique Bourgeois. Monique has cured him during his convalescence and Matisse has asked her to lay down as model for some canvas. After the Matisse convalescence she is become a nun. Matisse makes the perfect agreement between drawing and painting with brush and ceramic. The inner of the chapel is composed by colorful stained - glass windows whose the reflects are projected on white walls. During the preparatory works some photographers have captured the inner of the Matisse creation.
