Saâdane Afif, The Fountain archives exhibition

Faithful with the Dada spirit movement (provoking for inciting the spectators to react and to contest the social order) Marcel Duchamp adopts the pseudonym Richard Mutt and proposes to the hanging committee of the Society of Independent artists to exhibit an urinal. The Duchamp aim is testing the limits of the main principle of this committee : never refusing any art work. But the hanging committee refuses to exhibit the urinal entitled "The Fountain". Duchamp decides to use the press and specially a paper he has co - founded "The Blind man" for highlighting his urinal with a commentary about this urinal signed by Richard Mutt. In this article Duchamp flags the censorship and the hypocrisy.

The artist Saâdane Afif inspires himself with the Duchamp way of working. He collects some books and magazines who speak about or reproduce the famous urinal because he thinks and he understands that the Duchamp way of working stays actual. Saâdane Afif plays with traditional museum codes for interrogating the art work status, his reproducing and the unlimited field of these interpretations. Saâdane Afif chooses to introduce his art work in several steps. He pulls up some pages from books or magazines who reproduce the Duchamp urinal and put all of these pages under glasses. The Saâdane Afif aim is arousing reactions among the spectators that he will introduce inside his work.
