Living in Los Angeles during the Reconstruction the producer and director of silent movies Oscar Micheaux produces movies where African - Americans performed in main characters. During that time the Lincoln Motion Pictures Company looked for screenwriters and Micheaux decides to work for them. But during the scripts writing he was confronted to the racism because the producers give tho order to give secondary parts to African - Americans actors and actresses. Oscar Micheaux refuses and he decided in 1919 to found his own motion picture company. Since the time he has created his company he has produced many films like "Within our gates" (1920) who is the critic of the Griffith movie "A birth of a nation", "Body and soul" (1925), "Murder in Harlem" (1935) and "Lying lips" (1939).
