The German director Harun Farocki Czech origin questions the power of the pictures for questioning and defeating the stories they support. This specialist of the contemporary experimental cinema analyses the evolution of the video game. During the 1980's the video game was at his beginning and the trees and the characters are just some static pixels. Harun Farocki highlights the part playing by the graphic designers who succeed to make some landscapes and heroes in a mimetic relation with the reality.
But Harun Farocki question himself also about the relation between the virtual and the real world. Inside the virtual world the rocks are thickness, the soil impenetrable and the water is without any depth reduce to the surface. Inside the virtual world the characters have no memories and they just look like automatons. Inside the virtual world the human feelings (fear, indignation, passivity, anger, defense) don't exist. The only interrogation Farocki asks at the end is : How far the video games will influence our perception of the reality ?
