The film director Nate Parker takes with irony the title of the racist movie filmed by Griffith in 1915 for speaking about the Nat Turner story who has leaded a group of African - Americans slaves in August 1831 in Southampton County (Virginia). The slave owners has let him learn the reading specially the bible reading for teaching the submission to the African - Americans slaves in the cotton plantations. Turner is deeply touched by the bible message and disgusted by the violence and the sadism of the plantation owners then he decides to use the bible message against them. The Nat Turner troop will kill sixty people but the repression will be horrible. Nat Turner and most of his men will be hang and his body will be mutilated. Before being killed Nat Turner receives a lawyer who will write his story. This story has inspired the novelist William Styron in 1967 and the film screenwriters.
