The Lee Bae art work mixes Western art (conceptual art, Arte povera) with traditional Korean art for giving a depicted form inciting to meditation. Exhibited by famous art galleries and museums Lee Bae comes from a poor family. Interested by drawing he follows calligraphy studies and it will play an important part inside his own art work. He inspires himself by Japanese calligraphers "Shu" who meditate a long time before painting and he has trained a lot before taking their mechanical gesture. Lee Bae receive the help of the famous Korean artist Lee Ufen for his first exhibitions but he will leave South Korea for going to Paris and discovering Pierre Soulages.

In Paris Lee Bae looks for his own way of making art and he succeeds to find it after buying a bag of charcoal. In Korea the charcoal is connected with the life, the energy, the way of living and invoke also the immigration. Lee Bae inspire himself with "Densaekhwe" who preaches a peaceful relationship between human being and the nature and underline the part playing by the body in making art. Lee Bae doesn't hesitate to integrate inside his black and white canvas burned and sculpted charcoal. Lee Bae show us that men can modify the nature but he men must also interrogate themselves about the purpose of his action.
