This biopic deals with the long jump final at the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin between two athletes from different backgrounds but who estimate themselves. The first Jesse Owens is a little son of slaves who have left the south of the United - States and the poverty for living in Cleveland (Ohio). At the beginning of the 20th century in a segregationist America he affirms himself as a great champion in different disciplines like the run (100 m, 200 m) and the long jump. Owens is the first African - American who appears at the front line of some American papers. The other athlete names Lutz Long and comes form the Leipzig upper class. He lives in a castle and with his own athletic performances he succeeds to integrate the famous Leipzig Sport Club. The nazi regime has the purpose to use the Long popularity for his propaganda and in August, 4 1936 the both athletes are face to face.

The nazis want to give another picture of their regime and they stop temporary their persecutions against the Jews. When Jesse Owens arrives in Berlin he is congratulated by the crowd and he discovers that inside the Olympic village all the athletes live together. Jesse Owens and Lutz Long admire themselves and when Owens will win his four gold medals Long will be the first to congratulate him in front of the photographs. In spite of the Long attitude the nazis will boycott Owens because his victories break down their racist theories. The American president Roosevelt will also refuse to receive Jesse Owens because the Democrat Party ran for an election in the South of the United - States and he doesn't want to loose votes. Long will be killed in Sicily in 1943 and he will say to his son in his last letter that two men can be friends in spite of the prejudices. Jesse Owens will also invoke the memory of his friend until the end of his life.
