The Cannes art center gives a tribute to Max Ernst and highlights his relationship with the city of Seillans (Var department) and also the work he has made for the Chave art gallery (city of Vence). Surrealism precursor and dadaist founder Max Ernst invents the rubbing technical who consists to let a pencil follow his way on unequal surface until forms and people appears. At the beginning of World War II he leaves Europe for going to New - York city where he meets members of the expressionism abstract movement and will write their manifesto named "Beyond the painting" (1948).

Max Ernst lives with his wife Dorothea Tunning the last twelve years of his life (1964 - 1976) in the city of Seillans (Var department). He puts his art work under the double sign of imagination and humor against the traditions, the conformism and the serious. Max Ernst deals with the birds theme by referring itself to a parrot of his childhood and also by the the culture of the Arizonan Indians Hopis (United - States). Max Ernst has lived in the city of Sedona between 1942 and 1954 and he has spent his time by familiarized himself with this culture specially the totems and the puppets he collected.

Max Ernst has also build a strong relationship with the art gallery owner Alphonse Chave. The founder of this raw art institution Alphonse Chave ha begun his career by selling toys and canvas in 1947. Finally he lets down the toys selling for exhibiting and selling only canvas. His purpose is to highlight know and unknown artists with an original history out of fashions. Max Ernst owns the profile and eleven exhibitions around his work have been made. The most important are the 1966 personal exhibition, the 1971 exhibition ("The hazard suspense"), the 1972 exhibition ("The soldier's ballad"), the 1973 exhibition ("paintings") and the 1975 exhibition named "Feast".
