After the Hendrickje Schaffoler death in 1663 the dutch painter Rembrandt will only paint self - portraits in which we can see his suffering face wounded by life. The Jos Stelling movie show us the way between richness and ruin and questions also about the creation mystery. In 1621 Rembrandt becomes to be a painter who paints famous people like the Orange prince and receive some money. His wedding with Saskia the niece of an art merchant integrate him inside the upper society but he spend many money for selling the sets of his canvas. His wife Saskia and three of his children will pass away and his private life become to be more complicated with Gerthe and Hendrickje. At the end of his life he turns inside a melancholic state.
