Located on a head land who dominates the Var valley the castle of Carros shelters since twenty years a contemporary international center of art. The building of this center results from an audacious bet from the official photographer of the Nice Art School Frederic Altmann. Author of more than 150.000 pictures he proposes to the municipality of that times to restore the Middle Age castle for promoting contemporary art in the middle country far from the noisy littoral. Frederic Altmann has followed his way with tenacity, eclecticism and enthusiasm and sixty exhibitions have highlighted the works of artists living in several continents. The "Twenty years after" exhibition mixes these art works with the Altmann's pictures. The Eulogies ("Art memory" Christine Delville, "Those who want to understand the creativity in Nice must follow the Altmann's eye" Ben) crown a photographic and art historian career. Frederic Altmann improves a huge feeling for picture with a free watch and he has also created a huge art collection for the CIAC illustrating the famous Tizano Terziano sentence "a photographer must watching and knowing how watching".
