During the art biennial dedicated to motion picture the city of Nice proposes many exhibitions around the Leo and Yves Mirkine art work. The Mirkine story begins in 1910 with the birth of Leo at Kiev and his arriving nine years after in Nice. He follows studies in the Massena highschool before leaving to Paris and becoming photographer. The increasing of the motion picture in the roaring twenties incite this polyglot to work as set photographer in the Julien Duvivier and Abel Gance shootings where he meets the film director Jean Renoir who will be his friend. During the shootings he imagines his own device : find himself there before the others at the good place and understanding what's today seems having no importance but tomorrow will be potent.

When World War II happens the French motion picture industry finds a safe place on the French Riviera. Léo Mirkine follows the movement and opens a picture studio named "Leo Mirkine, everything for picture and motion picture" 88 street of France. This picture studio is also used as mail box by the French Resistance. Mirkine works on the shooting of "Les enfants du paradis" (1944) but he is arrested after and deported to the Drancy camp by the nazis. After the Liberation Leo and his son Yves participates to the first Cannes film festival (1946). They will make many pictures for famous French magazines (Paris Match, Jours de France, Cinémonde, Ciné Revue, ...) and sell their work to some American motion picture studios (Artistes associés, 20th Fox Century, Columbia, Warner Bros).
