The Diana Ross history begins at the Brewster Douglas Housing Project in Detroit (Michigan State) with her birth inside a family belonging to the working class. Her first purpose was to catch her father attention and for doing that she builds the "Primettes" group with three friends (Florence Ballard, Betty McGlown Travis and Mary Wilson). The group performs in village fairs and the Motown founder Berry Gordy heards about them. Interested by the Diana character mixing optimism and determination Gordy decide to give her a secretary job but also seduced by her voice to let her tapes songs with the "Supremes" the new "Primettes" name. In 1964 the Supremes song "Where did our love go" becomes immediatly a huge success and the group will do like that until 1969 the year it will be broken. Berry Gordy imposes Diana Ross as lead singer and fires Florence Ballard who dies few years after in spite of the fact that she has created "The Supremes". At the begining of the 1970's Berry Gordy wants to make Diana a superstar. He decides to choose two songs authors (Ashford and Simpson) who will write the songs during a decade. At the same time Diana gets married with Robert Silberstein and performs as actress in "Lady sings the blues". The film will be screen at the Cannes Film Festival but received any awards. Her actress career will be moreover short because in 1978 Diana wants to play Dorothy in the Sydney Pollack movie "The Wiz" and the film was a fealure. Disappointed by that Diana decide to give a new way to her career because new females disco singers Gloria Gaynor and Donna Summer became to be stars. She takes her independance from Gordy by building her own company (Ross Entreprises Inc.) and also by asking Nile Rodgers to be her new songs author. This good choice will help her with two albums ("The Boss" (1979), "diana" (1980)) to come back in front of the stage. Then she leaves Motown for integrating RCA a company built by WASP people and it looks like a kind of revenge for an African - American girl borns in a poor background. At the end of the 1980's Diana gets married again with Arne Noess Jr. and returns to Motown as shareholder.
