The Malmaison Art Center welcomes until November 1rst the critical watch of Kehinde Wiley on contemporary art. Wiley asks himself about part playing by African - American people as him in art making because they are always ignored or stereotyping as servants, maids or slaves. Born in Los Angeles (1977) he is the son of a Yoruba and an African - American woman. Graduated at Yale university he spends his childhood living in suburbs but becomes to be known by his art reappropriations integrating African - American characters influenced by hip hop culture (Grandmaster Flash, Michael Jordan, ...). Kehinde Wiley will be famous after the lifestyle Puma collection (2010) and the portrait of the President Obama he made (Amy Sherald does the same for Michelle). Kehinde Wiley travels all over the world looking for models he shoots puting the pictures in the middle of colorfull sets. The Daniel Templon art gallery exhibits and sells the Kehinde Wiley art work but his ultimate goal is to build and an artist residency in Africa.
