Sabine Weiss

The last living member of the French humanist picture school Sabine Weiss has been awarded as Woman in Motion (photography) by Kering and the Arles Meetings. This award tributes a life dedicated to picture making since the 1930's when she received her first camera. With the agreement ant the support of her father she follows photography studies at Geneva before going to Paris after WWII. There she meets the French vanguard (Brassaï, Doisneau, Cartier - Bresson, Ronis, Boubat, Izis) known as the French humanist picture school. They all want to forget the cruelty of war and underlining the human being in a rebuilding country with the help of the Americans. The Sabine Weiss pictures are optimistic and full of feelings in a world where everything seems to be possible. Sabine Weiss has also worked as photojournalist for the picture agency Gamma - Rapho and cover several places (Ethiopia, Egypt, Reunion, ...) all over the world for doing that.
