The novelist Jean Bruce imagines in 1949 a spying serial dealing with the adventures of an American secret agent names Hubert Bonisseur de la Bath coming from an old Franch family. The film director André Hunebelle adapts first these adventures on screen in several movies ("OSS 117" (1963), "Shadow of Evil or panic in Bangkok" (1964), "OSS 117, mission for a killer" (1965), "OSS 117, double agent" (1968) with Frederic Stafford and John Gavin as OSS 117. At the beginning of the 1970's the James Bond gadgets and the geopoliticals analysis of SAS interest more the audience rather than OSS does. Both French film directors Michel Hazanavicius and Nicolas Bedos challenge taking this character for twisting it as a comedy. Their three movies follow themselves in a chronological way giving a panorama of the French history from the fourth Republic until the 1980's. The Hazanavicius movies "OSS 117, Cairo nest of spies" (2006) and "OSS 117, lost in Rio" (2009) speaks about the fight between OSS 117 and some nazis during the French decolonization and the flower power time. The main character performs by the actor Jean Dujardin owns a chauvinist spirit, loves the colonialism but understands quickly the situation. The new OSS 117 adventures happen in black Africa at the end of the 1970's when France is leaded by the former president Valery Giscard d'Estaing and the elite think that Russian tanks will invade the country if the left wins the elections. OSS 117 doesn't know anything about black Africa and he tries to find more knowledges in comic books. His chief gives him the order to understand how computers work and chooses a young agent OSS 1001 for a mission in Africa. OSS 1001 disappears and OSS 117 must find him, help a local dictator who is the mixing between Mobutu and Bokassa for the cruelty and Bongo for the cynism and also protecting the French economic interests. OSS 117 will accumulate blunders during the movie but succeed to move away the dictator opponents leaded by his wife helping by communists. "OSS 117, From Africa with Love" is a real watching pleasure holding by the efficient duet Jean Dujardin and Pierre Niney highligting by cute women.
