"Father and soldier" deals with soldiers from the former French colonial Empire send on european battle front during world war one in spite of the fact that they have any own interest to defend. The film director Matthieu Vadepied doesn't try to teach something or to forgive himself about colonization because his purpose is showing war cruelty towards the story between a father and his son. Bakary Diallo enlists himself in the French army for fighting far from home ans searching his son Thierno who has been caught by recruiting agents. Inside the hell trenches all the soldiers fraternize together and the African soldiers speak their own languages the peul and the wolof. Bakary succeeds to find Thierno and tries to protect him against himself and also the others. The Bakary and Diallo officer follows the way involving a lot on front line. Thierno wants to do the same but Bakary is frigthened about the safety of his son. The involvement of his son will help him becoming a man.
