After the end of the second world war Germany stays confrontated with his nazi past. The main leader of the third Reich have been sentenced during the Nürenberg trail but after the German authorities follow the way building again the country and rising up the economy. The German federal prosecutor Fritz Bauer decides at the beginning of the 1960's to chase after the other less important war criminals but in October 1rst 1968 the Bundestag vote unanimously for the law introduced by a jurist Eduard Deher who has worked during the 1940's for the nazis. Under this law a twenty years statute of limitations after the crime stop all the investigations. The German novelist Ferdinand Von Schirach the grandson of Baldur Von Schirach the chief of the hitler youth writes "The Collini Case" finding the idea inside the trial of a war criminal sentenced by the Hambourg Court of justice (2002).

"The Collini Case" begins when an old man names Fabrizio Collini knocks on the door of a luxurious hotel in Berlin and kills Hans Meyer the man who opens the door with a Lüger. Arrested by the police few minutes after Collini says anything about what he has done. Franco Nero known as a western spaghettis star specially those directed  by Sergio Corbucci like Django performs as Collini a man stretching back to the dark times of World War II. The inexperimented  defense attorney Caspar Leinen knows well the victim because when he arrives as young turkish immigrant in Germany Hans Meyer gives him some help and also Leinen has followed a love affair with the Meyer daugther. Everything seems to be over for Collini. The lawyer of the Meyer family is someone potent and if Collini doesn't want to be life sentenced he just must admitt that he has killed Meyer with a gun.

A dramatic turn of events will break this script. When Collini move to the hotel and kill Meyer he uses a gun from the German army and this gun is the beginning of a new turn. During the trail the lawyer of private party says that Collini has already introduce a claim in 1969 against Hans Meyer but it didn't have any issue because the Deher law has stopped all the investigations. Casper Leinen discovers the real past of the one he considers as his second father when he moves to Montecatini (Italy). In August 1944 Hans Meyer was a SS officer and he has given the order to shot twenty people including the Collini father killed just in front his son. "The Collini Case" make us remember the Costa Gavras movie "Music Box" (1989) or the Marco Kreuzpaintner film "Trade" where the topic deals with the ghosts of the past and show us the good fight of the killer.
