In October 1918 Charlie Chaplin known as Charlot gets married with the young Mildred Harris too fast in spite of the fact they have few common points. During three years Charlot can't make anything accentuated byt the lost of a child three days after his birth. After that sad event he involve himself a lot inside his most intimate movie where he performs as a father. The movie names "The Kid" deals with a single mother who must leaves his child who will be welcome by Charlot at home. Together they build a famous team. The Kid breaks windows and Charlot mends them. At the end the Kid and Charlot finds again the mother who is becoming a famous singer. For writing the script Charlot finds the inspiration inside his own very sad life moment when his brother and himself has been placed by social workers in another family. Performing as the Kid isn't something easy and Charlot spends many times but one day in a bar he succeeds to find the right child. Jackie Coogan does magic tricks with his father on stage. Directing was very hard because Charlot looks for perfection and must keep the support of the producers but the result is a masterpiece. After the shooting he divorced with Mildred Harris but improves a fear beecause he doesn't want to loose the rights on the movie. Then he decides to edit the movie in secret between an hotel in Salt - Lake - City and the city of New - York. Screened in February 1921 "the Kid" is a success but not for everybody. Jackie Coogan lost money and becomes to be sick so the californian politicians decide to vote a bill the "Californian Child's Actors Bill" for protecting children actors. Staying a long time far from stages Jackie Coogan becomes to be famous again during the 1960's as uncle Festen in "The Addam's family".
