The Alexandre Dumas novels have deeply inspired many script writers and film makers during decades and now the both film directors Alexandre de la Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte adapt on screen a classic from French culture "The count of Monte - Cristo" after doing the same for the three mousqueteers. In 1815 after the falling of Napoléon the first a sailor names Edmond Dantès saves the life of a young woman in the sea who keeps with her message from the emperor. This good action will involve problems for Dantès leaded by someone who introduces himself as his best friend. Arrested just before his wedding with Mercédès and injailed inside the If castle he becomes friend of the abbé Faria. The abbé indicates to Dantès a place where stays a fabulous treasure but passes away. Dantès finds the treasure and becomes the count of Monte - Cristo with the goal taking one's revenge to perfidious people becoming influent in the new royalist regime. "The count of Monte - Cristo" respects all the codes of the swashbuckler films owning action scenes choreographed and wardrobes even if the script writers don't follow the novel intrigue introducing non usefull characters. But we must notice that they don't try to depict Dantès as a Hollywood superheroe correcting the mistake they have done with Milady de Winter. The choice of Pierre Niney as main actor is something normal because he performs well and connect also with the flashing of old technicolor movies wha can impress American producers. Serving with a famous casting and a high budget "The count of Monte - Cristo" tributes a popular movie making way. The movie builds also a link with pop culture specially the character of Batman the avanger puting a mask fighting against the evil and asking us about the meaning of personal revenge.
