The black and white Robert Dosineau pictures stay among those who are the 20th century potent. He learnt pictures making during the 1930's after following engraving studies and finds the inspiration inside the Eugene Atget photographies showing suburbs around the city of Paris. Doisneau begins in the "Excelsior" paper before working for the car factory Renault he will leave in 1939 after his meeting with Charles Rado the Rapho Agency director. After World War II he will do some illustrated reports about Paris, France or abroad for French papers (Paris Match, Point de Vue, Regards) or American papers (Life). With a lot of patience Doisneau keeps a distance with models and succeeds to catch the unseen with humor and tenderness. During the 1950's the Robert Doisneau pictures like the famous "Baiser de l'Hôtel de Ville" are printed a lot in press and he belongs to the movement names "Groupe des XV" who follows the puprose to promote photography as art with the help of the French National Library. The exhibition underlines also an unknow part of the Doisneau talent. In 1960 the American newspaper "Fortune" calls him for the Palm Springs way of living advertising. Robert Doisneau never moves to United States in spite of the fact that art galleries (Photo League gallery of New - York City) or artistic institutions (MoMA, Art Institute of Chicago) have already highlighted his pictures. He takes the plane November 19th 1960 and arrives two days later on place staying there until December 1rst. In Palm Springs Robert Dosineau becomes to be an ethnologist using colors for the first time and thinks He should do it before. The Palm Springs pictures printed in February 1961 show us a fake atmosphere in the middle of the desert with golfs and greens using many water. This artificial planet repainted with sweetest colors testifies well about the American middle class at the beginning of the 1960's.
