In this movie like in his books Littell goes near the violence for telling what he sees like Malraux, Hemingway, Kessel and Dos Passos have done before. Littell analyses but also improves interest for the people he meets influenced by his experience as humanitarian. Littell films six people (four young adults and two adults) whose the story follow the bloody way of the LRA (Lord Resistance Army) without trying to direct them.

Littell stays more longer on the story of four young adults. The first Geofrey is cleaver and ready to make is own introspection. The second named Mike is joyful but he understands progressively what he has done. Two young women Nighty and LIpisa are also broken by their stolen childhood. Rejected by the Ugandan society they try to rebuild themselves. Littell brings them where the LRA has committed mass murders. He shows them pictures of LRA killings and pictures of the Ogwen catching. Littell tries to make us understand how young adults have committed such murders but also help them to rebuild themselves
