Two years before the Rodney King violent police arrestation in L.A. the film director Spike Lee makes a feature movie names "Do the right thing". Introduced during the Cannes Film Festival it will never win the golden palm but nobody will forget it because it's the first time that an African - American writes, directs and produces a feature movie. "Do the right thing" speaks also about the communities during the "dog day" in the borough of Brooklyn (New - York city). The two film main characters Sal a pizzeria owner and Mookie his employee and some other people (Da Mayor, Mother Sister, Radio Raheem, Smiley) live together without any troubles. Sal wants to refresh his pizzeria inside and underlining portraits of Italian - American famous people (Frank Sinatra, Sylvester Stallone, Sophia Loren) in spite of the fact that some of his clients belong to the African - American community. Mookie notices that but Sal don't care about Mookie's point of view. The DJ Radio Raheem dies during a struggle with the police and a riot happens distroying the Sal pizzeria. After the riot Sal and Mookie make friends again. At the exception of Danny Aiello all the actors and actresses come from the stand up. He also asks to the cinematographer to put in or to underline the orange and red colors for giving a warmth atmosphere. Spike Lee concludes "Do the right thing" by two sentences. The first from Martin Luther King rejecting violence and the second from Malcolm X calling to violence. He doens't support one between the both and let the spectator making his own opinion.
