The both film directors Natalia Merkoulova and Alexeï Tchoupov work like fighting and make a paranoiac thriller, a mystic search and a nihilist watch of Russia at the end of the 1930's finding his place inside the critic post Soviet motion picture. In 1938 the purges decide by Staline himself have reached a head much more important than others in the human being history. The Soviet state orders political police members to kill people introduced as state ennemy and after these policemen will be killed by others. The young captain Volkonogov perfectly performs by Yuriy Borisov understands that it's over for him and for saving his life he runs away. Another police officer takes a legal action against him using the article 38 of the criminal law giving many possibilities because in a land leaded by materialism dialectics life means nothing. During his escaping Volkonogov wants apologizing himself to his victims for saving his own soul. He meets a doctor living among dead bodies or an orphan who doesn't forgive him. Inside the strom distroying everything around the picture showing a Zeppelin beetween two buildings slowing down filmed seems like a kind of break. "Captain Volkonogov escaped" looks like a landscape of Russion history from the beginning to today. Awarded the movie has been forbidden on screens and the films directors must leave Russia like Volkonogov has tried to do.
