In 1977 the film director Ridley Scott becomes to be well known when his movie "The duellists"dealing with a fight between two officiers is screened during the Cannes Film Festival. The Scott's attraction about Napoleon will rise after but following the Brit point of view on the Emperor. Horrify with reason by the bloody times of the French Revolution (1792 - 1794) Ridley Scott isn't ready to accept the admiration he improves for Napoléon. He doesn't like the former French lords because they weren't ready to take the decisions the country really needed during the 18th century. For keeping the control of the situation after the Revolution Napoleon was the only one but the Brits wanted a king sharing their own values not an emperor coming from the people. He draws the Napoleon portrait only like a critic without any reflection. The main characters of the First French Empire (Talleyrand, Fouché, Murat, Ney, ...) weren't introduced in but the English general Wellington or the Russian emperor Alexander the first play a too big part. Everything begins with Napoleon watching the execution of the queen Marie - Antoinette and continues with the Toulon harbor siege the both far from reality. The period of time before like the training at the Brienne college, the battles in the North of Italy and in Egypt are forgotten in spite of the fact they help Napoleon building his career. Ridley Scott rather introduced Napoleon as an old man, crual and rapist. The empress Josephine is depicted as a prostitute selling her body to power men. The American magazines ("Variety", "The Hollywood Reporter") have quickly understood the Scott lies but the English press prefer saying that Scott describes well the situation. This so long movie could be a wreck but the sinking is avoiding by special effects made with computers. Specialist of action scenes ("Blade Runner", "Gladiator", "Black Hawk Down", "American Gangster", ...) Ridley Scott succeeds to build battles fields showing the strategy of the Emperor Napoleon the first.
