"Bonnard Pierre and Marthe" begins when the Marthe Bonnard great - niece names Pierrette Vernon meets the film maker because she wants highligthing her ancestor part inside the Bonnard life and work. Martin Provost rather prefers keeping his time before doing anything but improves an interest for a woman who has done some pastels between 1921 to 1929 and exhibited at the art gallery Eugène Druet (1923) but stays unkown for art critics and also people. Borns Marthe Boursin in a poor background she moves to Paris and becomes Marthe de Méligny for rising up and living her condition. When she gets married with Bonnard in 1925 she will tell the truth to him but nobody happen because their couple are based on a very close bond. Like "Bonnard Pierre et Marthe" shows the both living in a free world without any rules except doing well in painting leaving society life and gossips. For directing his movie Martin Provost using some natural sets in two French departments (Eure and Var) where Pierre Bonnard owned a house for the first and looks like his Cannet house for the second. Finding someone for performing was also easy. The actor Vincent Macaigne plays Pierre Bonnard and he should train a lot in painting but his artist mother gives him advices. He also looses weight and takes a new hair cut. The actress Cécile de France performs as Marthe and she does like Vincent Macaigne in painting training. "Bonnard Pierre and Marthe" rejects the cliches and gives to the audience a real watch about creative process in a free atmosphere in our dark times.
