The Cedric Jimenez movie deals with the cops daily life in the north side of Marseille where drug dealing rise up. Three policemen (Gregory, Karim and François) must follow the policy leaded by their chiefs meaning catching the most bad guys whatever the price is. For doing that they invent new methods far from the legality until they will be prosecuted by the justice. "The stronghold" owns many action scenes but divides also the press. Some journalists (20 minutes, Le Figaro, Le JDD, Les Echos)  underline the realism of the movie but some others (Le Monde, Libération et les Inrocks) say that it gives bad opinion people living in the suburbs and support the far right. The only pupose of the film director Cédric Jimenez is interesting himself with the stories of his birth city Marseille. He begins by making a film names "La French" about a fight between the Judge Michel and the godfather Gaëtan Zampa. Jimenez improves a huge respect for the hollywood films makers Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese and he wants make realistic movies like they do. Before filming he takes some informations with the goal to show people breaking by an unhuman system. Jimenez succeeds to create an alchemy between the three main characters (Gilles Lellouche, François Civil and Karim Leklou) by bringing them on the set and asking them to read parts of the script for understanding the atmosphere of the shooting.
